Ask small questions to dispel fear and inspire creativity:

One of the most powerful ways to 'program' your brain is the technique of asking small questions. Small questions create a mental environment that welcomes unabashed creativity and playfulness.

When you ask small questions of others you can channel that creative force towards team goals. By asking small questions of yourself, you lay the groundwork for a personalized program for change.

Here are examples of small questions:

bulletIf health were my first priority, what would I be doing differently today?
bulletWhat is one way I can remind myself to drink more water?
bulletHow could I incorporate just a few more minutes of exercise into my daily routine?
bulletWhat is one thing I like about myself today?

If you cannot work out what you want from your spouse, ask happily married friends "What is one thing your partner does that makes you happy?" From their answers, you can create a menu of options and eventually you can answer the question for yourself.

If you cannot think of what kind of job could bring you pleasure, find people who enjoy their jobs and ask "What is one aspect of your job that makes you happy?" The answers can stimulate thought about the sources of pleasure at work. And check out: Willpower in the Workplace?

Build the habit of asking yourself small (and positive!) questions. As you begin, remember that you are programming your brain for creativity, so choose a small question and ask it repeatedly, over the course of several days or weeks. You will experience the productive output of a brain that is pleasantly challenged.

A small question may be just one step toward change, but, as Lao Tsu wrote, every journey begins with one step.
